Types of Financial Aid
UNG offers a comprehensive range of financial aid options to meet the needs of its students. These include:
- Scholarships: Scholarships are awarded based on academic merit, financial need, or other criteria. They do not have to be repaid.
- Grants: Grants are awarded based on financial need. They do not have to be repaid.
- Loans: Loans must be repaid, but they offer flexible repayment options and low interest rates.
- Work-Study: Work-Study programs allow students to earn money to help pay for college expenses while gaining valuable work experience.
Eligibility for Financial Aid
To be eligible for financial aid, students must:
- Be enrolled in a degree-seeking program
- Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen
- Have a valid Social Security number
- Not be in default on any federal student loans
- Demonstrate financial need (for need-based aid)
Applying for Financial Aid
To apply for financial aid, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the federal deadline. The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.

- Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loans: Awarded to students regardless of financial need. The student is responsible for paying the interest on these loans.
- Federal Direct PLUS Loans: Awarded to parents of dependent undergraduate students.
Types of Work-Study

- Federal Work-Study (FWS): Awarded to students with financial need. Students work on campus in jobs that are related to their field of study.
- Georgia Work-Study (GWS): Awarded to Georgia residents with financial need. Students work on campus in jobs that are not related to their field of study.
Financial Aid Deadlines
UNG has the following financial aid deadlines:
- Priority Deadline: March 1st
- Regular Deadline: June 1st
Students who apply for financial aid by the priority deadline are given priority consideration for scholarships and grants.
