Susan Davis is an American politician who served as the U.S. Representative for California’s 53rd congressional district from 2001 to 2023.

Personal Life
Susan Davis was born on April 13, 1944, in New Rochelle, New York. Her birth name is Susan Jill Jacobs and she is Jewish.
She graduated with a BA in political science from the University of California, Berkeley in 1965. After graduating, she worked as a teacher and a social worker.
Political Career
In 1981, Davis was elected to the San Diego City Council representing the 3rd district. She was the first female Jewish person to serve on the council.
In 1992, Davis was elected to the California State Assembly representing the 79th Assembly District. She served in the Assembly until 2000.
U.S. House of Representatives
In 2000, Davis was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives representing California’s 53rd congressional district. She served in the House for 22 years and was a member of the Democratic Party.

After retiring from the House, Davis joined the faculty of the University of San Diego as a distinguished visiting professor of public policy.
