History
Piedmont University was founded in 1897 as a girls’ school called Piedmont College. The school was founded by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and was originally located in Athens, Georgia. In 1912, the school moved to its current location in Demorest, Georgia. In 1920, the school became coeducational and changed its name to Piedmont College. In 1982, the school changed its name again to Piedmont University.
