  • Federal Direct Subsidized Loans: These loans are available to undergraduate students with financial need. The government pays the interest on these loans while you are in school and during the grace period after you graduate.
  • Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loans: These loans are available to all undergraduate and graduate students. You are responsible for paying the interest on these loans, even while you are in school.
  • Federal Direct PLUS Loans: These loans are available to graduate students and parents of undergraduate students. They have higher interest rates than other federal student loans.

How to Apply for Financial Aid

To apply for financial aid, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You can submit the FAFSA online at www.fafsa.gov.

Once you have submitted the FAFSA, Thomas More will use the information you provided to determine your financial need. We will then send you a financial aid award letter that will detail the types and amounts of financial aid you are eligible for.

Tips for Applying for Financial Aid

  • Apply early. The FAFSA opens on October 1st each year. We recommend that you apply as early as possible to maximize your chances of receiving aid.
  • Be accurate. Make sure that you complete the FAFSA accurately and completely. Any errors could delay your processing or result in your being denied aid.
  • Submit all required documents. In addition to the FAFSA, you may be asked to submit other documents, such as your tax returns or a verification of income. Make sure that you submit all required documents promptly.
