History
Frostburg State University was founded in 1898 as the Maryland State Normal School No. 2. The school’s original mission was to train teachers for the public schools of Maryland. In 1935, the school was renamed Frostburg State Teachers College. In 1963, the school was again renamed Frostburg State College. In 1976, Frostburg State College became a university and was renamed Frostburg State University.
