Applying for Financial Aid

To apply for financial aid at TAMIU, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is a federal form that collects information about your financial situation and family income. This information is used to determine your eligibility for federal and state financial aid.

  • Federal Direct Subsidized Loans: These loans are subsidized by the federal government and do not accrue interest while you are enrolled in school at least half-time. In 2023-2024, the maximum annual loan amount for dependent undergraduate students is $12,500.
  • Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loans: These loans are not subsidized by the federal government and accrue interest while you are in school. In 2023-2024, the maximum annual loan amount for dependent undergraduate students is $20,500.
  • Federal Direct PLUS Loans: These loans are available to parents of dependent undergraduate students and graduate students. In 2023-2024, the maximum loan amount for a PLUS loan is the cost of attendance minus other financial aid received.

Work-Study Programs:

The Federal Work-Study Program (FWSP) provides part-time employment opportunities on campus to students with financial need. Wages earned through the FWSP can be used to pay for tuition and fees, books, supplies, and other educational expenses.
